GAME DAY! Yes, back west in Stevens County!

Before commenting on sports, I want to share this website link, which will redirect you to coverage (video) of the Belgrade VFW Memorial Day program. Here's that link: https://shorturl.at/BPkr3. Side note: because I got sidetracked by visiting too long with a handful of children of the late Ozzie and Ruth Stepan at the Brooten Pavilion on Memorial Day, I arrived at the Belgrade VFW Memorial Day program about 3 minutes after it started. However, as anyone who knows any of the Stepan children, time spent visiting with any of them is about the best way anyone could spend their time!

And in sports news...today is the big day!
This is the day our B-B-E Jaguars baseball team has worked towards for the past 12 months. One year ago, the Jaguars suffered a gut-wrenching 11-10 extra-inning loss in the opening game of the Section 6A championship series. That loss ended their season. The victor that day was Parkers Prairie, who just happens to be their opponent today in Morris. The Jaguars and Panthers meet today at Chizek Field at 2:30 p.m. in what will hopefully be back-to-back playoff games. The Jaguars have to beat the Panthers in the 2:30 game in order to force a true winner-take-all game. The loser is done with the Section 6A runner-up trophy to show for it, while the winner of today's series gets a trip to the Class 1A state baseball tournament that takes place next week.

I still have a great deal to get done before heading west to Morris. Today's game will be aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. They are at 107.1 FM on the radio dial, and they also stream online at https://www.kmgk1071.com. Game updates will be posted at this blog post after the first game gets rolling. So please pass the link to this blog post so others can follow along from near and far!

First pitch was at 2:28 p.m.

GAME UPDATES!
Parkers Prairie scored the game's first run in the first inning on a hit batsman, one walk and an infield hit.

After 4 innings, the score is tied 1-1. Brett DeRoo scored B-B-E's run in the top of the 3rd inning.

The final score will be posted in a NEW blog post before 5 p.m.

Memorial Day was great!

We had terrific Memorial Day events in the Bonanza Valley yesterday. I'll get more coverage from them in this week's Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.

Here's a glimpse of the Belgrade V.F.W. Memorial Day parade as it passed by the Belgrade Nursing Home yesterday:

It tried to rain this morning! Well, sort of. We got about one-tenth of rain, barely enough to settle the dust. It is very, very dry right now.

Memorial Day program in Brooten moved to Pavilion

The weather has moved this event to the Pavilion. It starts at 10 a.m.

See you there!!

Here's another video from the senior recognition banquet last Wednesday at Olson Auditorium:

I'm currently gathering other material from that evening to publish in the next newspaper issue.

**Update on Monday night: two weeks later, I've finally uploaded all Sunburg Syttende Mai photos to the newspaper's SmugMug photo gallery. It has two albums that total 347 photos! What a crazy day that was. The events folder with all 2022 albums can be found by clicking on this link: https://bonanzavalley.smugmug.com/2022-B-B-EBonanza-Valley-area-events.

And here's the link to the 2022 Fine Arts photo albums. I have gotten as far as uploading the choir concert photos from way back on May 9. Band is forthcoming. Here's the link: https://bonanzavalley.smugmug.com/BBEBonanza-Valley-Area-Fine-Arts-2022.

Grove Lake today

The Grove Lake community will host a Memorial parade today at 1 p.m., as was outlined on page one of this week's newspaper.

The parade, led by the Glenwood American Legion, will march across County Road 39 and into Grove Lake Township cemetery. Everyone is then invited over to the park along the beach/shore of Grove Lake, where the Color Guard will have a gun salute, and Taps will be played in honor of the memory of area veterans who served our country so bravely during our nation's existence on earth.

(HD VIDEO) The Fallen honored at Grove Lake

Here's a video of Taps being played at Grove Lake Township park yesterday afternoon:

I hope you've operated with more class than Vice President "Enjoy the long weekend" Harris has this weekend! It's important to know why we have a Memorial Day in the U.S.A. It's very unfortunate that she is holding that office. It would behoove her to read up on Memorial Day. Perhaps click over to the History channel and get educated: https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/memorial-day-history.

I digress.

Meanwhile, where I come from, our town of Brooten is proud to have donated over $1,000 to the Brooten American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Drive. This includes donations from businesses and individuals. What a tremendous effort! Read more about that in the June 3 issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice.

Enjoy that sunshine, today, Jaguar Country

Inactivity = don't go there! (VIDEO)

We'll always promote the opposite of what can be described as a "sedentary lifestyle" and here's a video from a podcast that outlines why physical inactivity is such a bad thing:

I hope you've been busy and active on this extremely wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

The more you know!

Here's a video taken six days ago at the Brooten American Legion Memorial Day program. It was a simply fantastic morning for this event, and best of all, it was well-attended in my opinion.

Remembering the fallen at the Belgrade V.F.W. Memorial Day program.

The Bonanza Valley Voice will have a large spread of photos throughout this week's newspapers from three separate Memorial Day programs held in Grove Lake, Brooten and Belgrade.

Below, HD video from the Belgrade V.F.W. program on Monday, starting with the B-B-E senior high choir performing.
