A beautiful day in Terrace...and Grove Lake, to name a few

Later today, I'll have good news to report from both Terrace and Grove Lake, communities on the outer corners of the Bonanza Valley Voice coverage area. It is always exciting to report good news!

Also exciting: the temperatures are supposed to climb into the upper 70s on Monday with a great deal of sunshine. This bodes well for farmers of all types as well as all gardeners!

I've been working to get this updated at the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper's SmugMug photo galleries: https://bonanzavalley.smugmug.com/BBE-Fall-Sports-2025. Besides traveling to Grove Lake and Terrace today, there's been a giant mountain of catch-up work completed.

I recorded numerous videos at Friday night's game in Barrett. It was an unusually high number of videos in what was a thoroughly entertaining game. It will take a while to get caught up on that.

Here's a cell phone video from early in the 1st quarter against West Central Area:

Here's a video from the 4th quarter at WCA:

The B-B-E school board meets in regular session tomorrow night at the elementary school media center. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. The Brooten city council meets at 7 p.m., and the meeting agenda can be found at the Bonanza Valley Voice editor's blog: lifeinbonanzavalley.blogspot.com/2025/09/brooten-city-council-meeting-agenda-for.html.

Coming next...tomorrow!
On Monday, the varsity volleyball and tennis teams compete in non-conference events. The volleyball team travels to Parkers Prairie (2-0 overall), while the tennis team travels the opposite direction to Montevideo. The temperature is supposed to climb towards 80 degrees on Monday. The outlook is really terrific in terms of the warm weather that's in the forecast. This is what farmers (and gardeners) need this month.

Fastpitch season ends; Memorial Parade is in Grove Lake today (VIDEO)

If you are anywhere within driving range of Grove Lake this morning, please put their community on your schedule! They have a wonderful Memorial Weekend parade that starts at 1 p.m. at the Grove Lake Township Park. This is located south of the town and just south of Trinity Lutheran Church along Pope County Road 39.

The B-B-E Jaguars fastpitch team lost 10-2 in the Section 3A tournament yesterday in Marshall. Their season wrapped up with an 11-11 overall record, which is a small improvement from last season. The 11 wins equals the total wins of the 2009 team, which was the last time the Jaguars surpassed 10 wins in a season. They were 10-14 a year ago. More to follow later. It's time to get ready for Grove Lake!

Remember what I said on page one this week! Memorial Day is not just a "day off" from work! Please honor this special day and weekend.

Here's details for Monday: (click) https://shorturl.at/hEesf.

Sunday night updates...
At Marshall on Saturday in the Section 3A fastpitch elimination bracket, BOLD lost 6-3 to Edgerton/Southwest MN Christian. The Warriors finished the season 14-10 overall with a roster that featured no seniors and just 2 juniors. The majority of the BOLD varsity team was made up of 9th and 10th grade players.

In the winner's bracket, Wabasso defeated Yellow Medicine East 4-0. In the other winner's bracket game, Lac qui Parle Valley defeated Edgerton/Southwest MN Christian 2-1. Those two results set up the Section 3A winner's bracket semifinals, which will be played at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Marshall. The winner between Wabasso and LQPV will advance to the Section 3A championship series, which will be held on Thursday, May 29.

In the elimination bracket, No. 5-seeded (North) MACCRAY earned a big upset win by a 6-5 score against No. 2-seeded (South) Murray County Central. This set up a Camden Conference border battle with MACCRAY taking on YME in the late afternoon game. The Sting kept their season alive with a 2-0 win. YME plays next on Tuesday (May 27) at 4:30 p.m. against Edgerton/SW Christian in another win-or-go-home game.

Here's action from the YME game in Granite Falls last Thursday:

The video features action in the top of the 6th inning.

In baseball news...
The B-B-E Jaguars baseball team earned the No. 2 seed in Sub-Section 6A-South. I really have no idea why they are not the No. 1 seed, as Upsala/Swanville Area was ranked two positions lower by QRF in Class 1A. Some things in life are simply a big mystery! As it stands, the Jaguars (13-6) open the playoffs at home in Elrosa on Tuesday, May 27 against No. 7-seeded West Central Area. First pitch is set for 5 p.m., so please spread the word!

Today, in Stearns County League action, the Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team suffered tough 3-2 loss at Richmond. The game was tied 2-2 through five innings, but the Royals scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Next weekend: the Saints travel the short trip south to Regal on Friday, May 30 for a night game. First pitch at Buddy Beier Stadium is at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, June 1, the Saints resume SCL action with a game at New Munich.

The full Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper's gallery has been uploaded for the Sunburg Syttende Mai parade photos from May 18. You can find that by clicking here: https://shorturl.at/k2SJi.

Grove Lake today

The Grove Lake community will host a Memorial parade today at 1 p.m., as was outlined on page one of this week's newspaper.

The parade, led by the Glenwood American Legion, will march across County Road 39 and into Grove Lake Township cemetery. Everyone is then invited over to the park along the beach/shore of Grove Lake, where the Color Guard will have a gun salute, and Taps will be played in honor of the memory of area veterans who served our country so bravely during our nation's existence on earth.
