From what I heard, Wadena was up by two possessions in the final 25 seconds of regulation. The Jaguars' press clamped down for two turnovers to force overtime.

Sauk Centre won over Frazee 41-23 in the final girls semi-final of the day.
The Jaguars will face Frazee in the third-place game tomorrow, meaning they won't get a rematch with the Mainstreeters until (possibly) the sub-section playoffs.

Merry Christmas to the B-B-E area ... hug your loved ones and enjoy a blessed Holiday weekend - Buckle up too!

A sad note over the weekend... and a sidebar to the following story, my mom's new husband is a snowplow operator for MN-Dot out of Alexandria. He's responsible for the stretch of I-94 from Alexandria to the Osakis exit. He came upon this accident as one of the first on the scene. It was ugly. Pray for their families.

Jaguars Boys Basketball Drubs Dawson-Boyd 62-46.... By the way, where's Waldo?

The Jaguars boys basketball team improved to 4-1 overall. The Blackjacks dipped below .500 to sit at 2-3 overall. Using suffocating full court pressure, the Jaguars went nine deep during the first half and kept the pressure on the whole game. Their second-half defense in the last two games has been a thing of beauty.

After being tied at 30-all at halftime, the Jaguars outscored the Blackjacks 32-16 in the second half. For the game, they shot a very solid 56% inside the 3-point line, but went 5-of-20 behind the arc.

On Friday night, the Jaguars girls basketball team travels to Rockford for their 2nd Central Minnesota Conference game of the season. They are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the CMC.

The Jaguars wrestling team lost two matches at the Kimball Triangular. They lost to the host Cubs 37-24 and to Browerville/Eagle Valley 49-24. Their next action will be Friday, January 9 when they host the Jaguars Invite.

As I've said before, students can feel free to copy any photos they see on this website for their own use on their own blogs/etc... and be sure to encourage your family to spend as much money as they can locally, supporting the B-B-E businesses who help keep this website operational.

*For fans who can't make it down to Rockford for the girls basketball game, be sure to take in Christmas in Belgrade on Friday night. The fun starts at 4pm at the City Hall, with sleigh rides around town. From 4:30 to 6:30, Santa Claus will be on hand at City Hall to take orders from children...and adults too!

The Jaguars reversed the outcome from their CMC season opener last year, which was at Pierz, by coming out on top of a tight overtime clash with the always-tough Pioneers. Last year the Jaguars lost 61-53 to cap a dismal 2-4 start to the season. (They would end up with the best regular season in school history, though, finishing 17-9 before playoffs.)

Other results from the CMC in girls basketball tonight:
Eden Valley-Watkins 53, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 42 (The Lakers are tagged with their first loss of the year in a match between state-ranked CMC squads)

Other area girls basketball scores:

YME 69, RCW 67 (2 OT)
NL-S 46, Albany 36

The Jaguars wrestlers picked up the first dual meet win of the season at the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City quadrangular. The Jaguars defeated the Jaguars of Renville County West 45-36. They also fell to Eden Valley-Watkins 45-18.

B-B-E Schools CLOSED for Monday, No activities

Lights out at B-B-E for Monday, December 15th. Early on, school was two hours late. Then I heard it was on TV that B-B-E was closed. I stopped at the high school parking lot as Superintendent Bullard was going inside, and he told me that everything was called off for today, including tonight's Christmas concert.

It's definitely nasty out there, and it'll most likely continue that way through the day and into the evening.

On Tuesday night, the only activity I know of without checking a calendar is the Jaguars girls basketball game against Pierz. It is a home event, held at the elementary gym. B-squad and C-squad starts at 6pm. The game marks the beginning of Central Minnesota Conference play.

More to follow.

Members of B-B-E Band and Choir give masterful performances as entertainment during recording of "On the Road" with Jason Davis

We had a real celebrity in the B-B-E community on Thursday night!

What a magnificent way to promote your programs, nothing less than a television show that will air statewide on KSTP Channel 5 later this winter. For now I am struggling to put into words how awesome tonight was. The music instructors (Ms. Westrom and Mrs. Hunter) did a fantastic job of pulling everything together this past week.

Look for a full feature story on tonight in the December 23rd issue of the Sauk Centre Herald.

**Friday night... be at the high school!...The Paynesville Area Bulldogs come to town for a sub-section matchup with the Jaguars boys basketball team. Even though it's early in the season, this game could have big playoff implications. Three of the Jaguars' first four opponents are in Sub-Section 6AA-East.

The excitement starts tonight! Jaguars wrestling hosts 8-team tourney, boys basketball hosts Tip-Off Classic, girls basketball at Benson

Next to playoff season, the debut of another athletic season is the most exciting time of the year, in my opinion.

The Jaguars wrestling teams hosts their annual 8-team season-opening tournament today, beginning at 3:30, at the high school gymnasium. Teams included are Yellow Medicine East, New London-Spicer, Willmar, Eden Valley-Watkins, Holdingford, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, and Browerville/Eagle Valley. This is the toughest wrestling tournament hosted at B-B-E in many, many years. It will be a ton of fun, for sure. It probably will last until around 10:00pm.

More on wrestling can be found at http://theguillotine.com.

The Jaguars boys basketball team hosts the third annual Tip-Off Classic at the elementary school. At 6:00, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City plays Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. Following that game at 8:00, the Jaguars face off with the Chokio-Alberta Spartans. This tournament also includes B-squad.

The third-place game between tonight's losers will be at 6:00 on Saturday night at the high school. The championship will be at 8pm that same night.

The Jaguars girls basketball team travels to Benson for a four-team tournament. The Jaguars face Maccray in the first game, which begins at 6:00. In the second game, the host Braves face Paynesville Area at 8:00. This tournament also has B-squad games running concurrently.

**Just a quick note that I received from our Band instructor, Sarah Hunter...more fill follow over the weekend on this. Jason Davis with the show "On the Road" (Channel 5) will be at John O's Dinner Theater at 5:00 on Thursday, December 8th. B-B-E Band and Choir members are providing entertainment for two hours, from 5 to 7pm. This is very exciting!

Giving Tree

Customer appreciation day in Belgrade at North American State Bank.

Banks in Brooten, Belgrade, and Elrosa have "Giving Tree" cards available for anyone wishing to purchase a gift for a local child from a family utilizing the B-B-E Food Shelf.

A wrapped gift worth $10-$15 needs to be returned to the bank with the original cards attached. Please do so by December 12th. Thanks for your generosity.

Basically, if you have a job this is something you should do. There are many unemployed parents out there, and it's only going to get worse as the recession takes hold across the U.S. Even those with jobs are struggling, as is obvious to anyone who punches a clock to pay the bills.

It truly is a jungle out there.
