Radio coverage tonight and more (VIDEO)

You can catch the game tonight at both local radio stations: Smooth Magic 107 FM (linked there) of Glenwood as well as 106.5 FM The Train (linked there) of Norway Lake/Sunburg. The Smooth Magic website has an audio player button embedded right at the top of their homepage. It's very simple to open up and then click "play" on the audio player that loads either in a pop-up or in a new web browser. Also, for The Train, they have an audio player link towards the top of their homepage.

Also, here's the link to view the Minnewaska Area school broadcasting page..click here on LIVE STREAM LINK

Tip-off is at 7 p.m. tonight at Minnewaska Area high school in rural Starbuck.

More to come.

Here's video featuring the final four minutes and 43 seconds of the first half of last night's boys' basketball subsection championship game at Nevis high school:

It's not perfect video in the sense that I was able to train the camera on all the action. I was running the videocamera while shooting action photos on my SLR camera and writing game notes on my notepad. But you at least get a feel for the game.

Radio crews headed to Alexandria

Bill Dean with 106.5 FM The Train interviews Justin Schmitz following the Maple Lake win on February 11.

Dave McClurg interviews Tanner Heinsius last night after the Kimball win.

So how lucky are we at B-B-E? So lucky that we get two of the finest radio crews you'll ever know following our Jaguars through the postseason.

More information you can share: both 106.5 FM The Train of Norway Lake-Sunburg and Smooth Magic 107 FM (107.1) out of Glenwood will be traveling to Jefferson high school in Alexandria on Friday night for the Section 5A boys' basketball championship.

Both radio stations stream online as well.

**Also, very important...please think of 5 to 10 Jaguar fans who perhaps don't spend time on Facebook, e-mailing or text messaging. We're a small, rural community. We can't assume that everyone automatically hears of this huge venue change for the game. Think of some Jaguar fans and get on the phone to spread the word!!!!

A quest for STATE begins tonight!

A mission begins tonight in Morris for the Jaguars boys' basketball team, who is set on nothing less than a third trip to the Class A state tournament and an ending that includes their second state championship.

Tip-off is at 7:30pm at the Morris Area elementary school gymnasium against the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers.

I'll be there, and so will D-Mac. Catch his coverage at 107.1 FM or at http://www.kmgk1071.com.

Jaguars get early lead over Holdingford

With about 7 minutes left in the first half, the Jaguars girls' basketball team has an 18-13 lead at Holdingford. *At halftime, the Jaguars have a 26-19 lead. Three players for B-B-E have six points each; the Jaguars have 11 turnovers against 8 for Holdingford. Only three Husker players scored in the first half.

With 8:30 left in the game, the Jaguars are up 34-28. With 81 seconds left, Mariah Rach hit two bonus free throws to give her team a 48-43 lead.

**Final: B-B-E 55, Holdingford 52. At the buzzer, a three-point shot by Holdingford's Jena Volkers bounced off the rim that would have tied the game.

#1 B-B-E vs. #1 Melrose Area will be on two radio stations

You can catch the call of the game on 106.5 FM the Train of Norway Lake-Sunburg and also Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. (Not BOB FM...they will have boys' hockey action.)
By the way, between the matches B-B-E had against Pierz and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Jaguars wrestling coach B.J. Friedrichs honored the 8 seniors on the team and the senior student manager. It was a touching moment and brought us a glimpse of the emotional times the team is enduring this season. The Jaguars defeated HL-W-W by a 43-21 score in the nightcap. They are 10-3 in duals this season heading into a hugely important triangular at Kimball on Thursday night. More on that will follow tomorrow. Osakis is the other team there.

The Jaguars welcome senior Austin Jaeger back to the huddle after he won the 138-pound match against Pierz by a pin in 19 seconds flat!

Also, hats off to the 14 B-B-E students who advanced from the Region meet to the State FCCLA meet. Great job!

A couple neat local programming notes

Tony Sanders, a recent graduate of B-B-E who was involved in a wide variety of activities including the Fine Arts and athletics, will perform on Saturday night at the Classic Dinner Theater Company.

Santa is coming to Micki's on Friday!

If you haven't already, please be sure to make a visit to the Classic Dinner Theater Company in Brooten. (They have a Facebook page, by the way) What a fantastic venue for both great food and entertainment!

A second note, Santa Claus will visit Micki's in Belgrade on Friday. Check out the details in the Observer this week.

Also an FYI - the girls' basketball team hosts tonight, boys' basketball is at Minnewaska on Friday (aired on The Train and Smooth Magic!) while the wrestling team hosts a huge triangular on Friday that includes Eden Valley-Watkins and Section 5A favorite Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

Coming on the Coaches Round up Saturday morning: Coach Anderson

D-Mac's Coaches Roundup show on Saturday morning begins with an interview with B-B-E girls' basketball head coach Kristina Anderson. It will begin shortly before 7:30am on Smooth Magic 107 FM.

I normally get this updated with better notes before 11:00 at night, but tonight I got delayed by posting at the Mainstreeter Sports Blog and also the Albany Huskies Sports Blog, both of which I help operate. I have some interesting scores to report. The fun never ends with this gig!

I do have a few video clips from Sauk Centre tonight, beginning with a clip of the moment of silence to pray for the Connecticut school shooting victims. It was a touching moment.

D-Mac's pre-match coverage begins at about 5:45 on 107.1 FM of Glenwood.

Thursday's volleyball match at Pierz is on Smooth Magic 107 FM

You can listen online by visiting the Smooth Magic 107 FM website at http://www.kmgk1071.com.

Pre-match coverage begins at around 6:45pm. This match is HUGE! The winner earns a share of the Central Minnesota Conference title. The loser ends up being left empty-handed if the winner finishes 7-0 in the loop.

Noteworthy: Pierz last won a share of the conference title in 2002; that season, they shared the crown with B-B-E. Both had identical 6-1 records in the league. That was also the first season that the Jaguars advanced to a section final match. They lost that season to MACCRAY 3-1 in the Section 6AA finals and finished 19-9 overall. Alicia (Roelike) Ehrnst, a 2004 B-B-E graduate, was a junior on the 2002 team; her youngest sister, Brittany, is one of eight seniors on this year's team.

I'm not 100% sure (but I am 99% sure) that when Alicia was a senior, they had 8 seniors on the roster as well.

Smooth Magic 107 Coaches Roundup will begin with Coach Montbriand on Saturday morning...**Plus a note on voting for KSAX "player of the year" award

The broadcast will begin at around 7:20am on 107.1 FM or online at www.kmgk1071.com

I just saw this "tip" on Facebook. You can go to the KSAX website to vote for "player of the year" - my suggestion is to vote for the B-B-E boys' basketball team. Check it out at http://ksax.com/article/12519

As of Friday night, the Parkers Prairie girls' basketball team leads the field with 58 votes. The B-B-E boys' basketball team is in second place with 18 votes.

Parkers Prairie lost in the Section 6A championship game...definitely a great team but not worthy of that type of an award. With B-B-E winning the state title, they are more than deserving of this award.

Click and vote! And spread the word far and wide!

Tonight's game will be aired on 1340AM KWLM online, 106.5 FM the Train and Smooth Magic 107 of Glenwood

The Jaguars boys' basketball game will get plenty of coverage tonight via the radio waves.

...and by the way, Battle Lake has risen to #10 in the latest QRF rankings for Class A. They are TOUGH!

Sunday, February 26, 2012

Monday night's girls' basketball playoff game will be on Smooth Magic 107 - meanwhile, the Train will be in Brooten

Dave McClurg's pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on Monday night at Battle Lake for the opening round of the Sub-Section 6A-South tournament.

*Update on Monday...I learned from Bill Dean that 106.5 FM the Train will be at the boys' basketball game against Ashby at home. That was what was on their original schedule, and it makes the most sense to get coverage of both squads versus having both in Battle Lake. (D-Mac's closer to Battle Lake anyway)

...and the final moments of the Rockford game and a very excited girls' basketball team winning their final regular season contest...

Stay tuned for updates on the games tonight!
