Elrosa at STATE! Part II (VIDEOS)

This post had videos added early Sunday morning.

Brief updates from the game in Litchfield will follow here on this blog post. The game will be aired on KASM 1150 AM! (And on their website: http://www.mykasm.com.)

First pitch is set for approximately 4:30 p.m.

GAME UPDATES...
**After the first inning, the game is tied 0 to 0. Cole Fuchs of Cold Spring is pitching for Elrosa.

**Through 3 1/2 innings, the score is still 0 to 0.

**Through 5 innings, we still have no score at Optimist Park.

Here's a video from the bottom of the fourth inning:

**Update: runs scored by Derek Wiener and Ashton Dingmann in the top of the sixth inning have given the Saints a 2-0 lead!! Earning the RBIs were Peyton Winter (fly out) and Andrew Weller (base hit).

FINAL: the Saints won by a 2-0 score to advance to the Sweet 16. They play Delano in Delano on Friday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m. Please spread the word!!

Here's a short video from after the game concluded:

Delano defeated Spring Hill last night by a 4-0 score.

Light summary: Elrosa's bats were dialed in as they totaled 11 hits for the game compared to six by the Mudhens. Minneota had a good start with a lead off base hit in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Elrosa's defense took out the next three batters beginning with a strikeout on the second batter, who got caught looking on a 3-2 count pitch. Overall this was an outstanding game was just one error, which came on a very tough 5-3 put out throw on a hard chopper to third base.

Both teams made outstanding defensive plays including numerous tough pop fly grabs in the outfield.

Game video and a better game recap will be posted in a new blog post later tonight on Sunday evening. I'm spending the majority of Sunday driving our daughter home from Rochester Mayo hospital.

Tomorrow they travel to New Munich to take on the first-place Silverstreaks in a huge SCL-North battle. The Saints (5-2) could pull into a virtual tie for first if they can beat New Munich (7-1).

UPDATE: the Saints improved to 6-2 in the SCL-North standings with a 2-0 win at St. Martin tonight. Payton VanBeck started and pitched 8 innings while earning 11 strikeouts.

Elrosa repeats as Elite 8 champions!

The Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team is repeat champions of the Elite 8 tournament. They defeated New London-Spicer 4-2 in the championship game tonight. The Saints scored three runs in the bottom of the first to help set up the win. Ethan Vogt pitched a complete game win with five hits, no walks and five strikeouts. He surrendered one earned run, while the Twins gave up three earned runs that proved the difference.

The motto of the weekend was "Great baseball, great weather, and great bonfires!"

NEXT: the Saints (9-2-1 overall) host St. Wendel this Friday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. They resume Stearns County League action two days later on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. against Lake Henry.

That's all for now. I have to get back in the garden to finish planting a late crop of sweet corn before I lose all my natural light!

I cut my hand while gardening so what has been very sporadic sports blogging will only be worse in the next day. It's not easy typing with nine fingers!

It's been quite a day, and the Saints win! (VIDEO)

The Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team won 2-0 tonight over Starbuck. And after that, we prayed for rain at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with a crowd of at least 150 farmers and concerned local citizens. That was a very special experience, although what's happening with the drought conditions is tough to witness.

Elrosa's next game is tomorrow night at 8 p.m. The Saints will play the winner of Saturday's 10 a.m. game between Sartell and Fergus Falls.

The Tri City Sharks and Rogers Red Devils will square off at noon in Elrosa on Saturday. That's all I've got now. It's Saturday morning as I type this and I have to get to the state clay trapshooting meet ASAP! That's in Alexandria at 10:30 a.m.

Here's the National Anthem prior to tonight's game:

Here's video from the bottom of the second inning when the Saints scored their first run of the game:

When you're in Elrosa this weekend, be sure to stop and patronize Bucky's Bar and Bayer Gas and Grocery! They are loyal and steady supporters of both the Elrosa baseball program plus the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper. Thank you for your support!

More to come.
