Step II: Sub-Section Semi success! 11 appearances in a row!

By virtue of a 25-14, 25-20, 25-8 sweep over Bertha-Hewitt tonight, the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team earned their 11th straight appearance in a sub-section championship match. There was little drama throughout the hour-long action, and game three was all downhill with the Jaguars jumping out to quick leads of 8-2 and 13-3.

After having consecutive appearances as members of Class AA in sub-section championship matches from 2002 to 2006, the Jaguars have now landed themselves in six straight Sub-Section 5A-South/West championship matches. They have a tall order in winning another sub-section title, however. (More on that later.)

Prior to 2002, the Jaguars competed in three sub-section championships in 1994, 1997 and 2000. In two of those three years, not including 1997, their season ended at the hands of Sauk Centre. They were defeated by Delano in the Sub-Section 5A-20 championship in 1997.

Bertha-Hewitt ends a fine season with a 21-9-1 overall record. They were 4-2 (3rd) in the Park Region Conference.

The 9th-ranked Jaguars take a 24-7 record up against a dynamite Upsala Cardinals team this Thursday at Pierz. Match time is 6:00pm. D-Mac's pre-game coverage starts at 5:45pm on 107.1 FM.

Upsala is 26-6 on the season and won the Prairie South Conference title with a 6-0 record. Ranked #17 in the latest Class A coaches poll, the Cardinals lost only one time in the month of October, that being by a 3-2 score on October 22 in the Prairie Conference North/South division battle to Osakis. Upsala trailed 11-7 in game five tonight to Sebeka before surging ahead to take a 15-13 win and end the Trojans season with a final record of 18-11-1.

In Section 6AA tonight, Sauk Centre swept Melrose Area and Albany swept LP-GE.

In Sub-Section 5A-East, Nevis (22-8-1) swept Onamia (17-10 finish) and Braham (19-4) swept McGregor.

Special note on the section final football game

The Section 4A Finals between A-C-GC and B-B-E will be held on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 PM. The game will be played at Husky Stadium at St. Cloud State University. 

• Ticket Sales: Sales will begin at noon at the south ticket booth. The cost will be $8 for adults and $5 for students. 

• Parking: Spectators are encouraged to park in the University lots K and Q south of Husky Stadium and the National Hockey Center.

Fan bus sign-ups are going on now at the high school office. Students are encouraged to use this option, and a minimum of 25 students are needed in order to get an initial fan bus going to St. Cloud.

I forgot to post this video when I posted the other one I shot at the Sub-Section 5A-North individual tennis tournament a couple weeks ago...this one features Eva Lamprecht, B-B-E's foreign-exchange student who held down the number one singles position all year long for the Jaguars girls' tennis team...

She had a fine showing against very tough competition, finishing with a 1-1 record in the tournament.

Dozens of B-B-E area youth enjoyed games and activities at the elementary west gymnasium tonight.

Video from the middle of the 3rd quarter last night in Lester Prairie

For the fourth year in a row, the Jaguars football team competed in the playoffs at Lester Prairie. They evened the playoff series with Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity last night with a 15-3 win over the heavily-favored Bulldogs.

Below, James Kuefler earns a pick with around 6 and a half minutes left in the third quarter. Later in the clip, he nearly pulled down a touchdown reception but the ball was knocked down by the Bulldogs defender. After a 2nd look, it was clear that the guy had his eyes on the ball and made an excellent defensive play.


There were countless big plays like this one that helped put B-B-E over the top. What a huge win for the Jaguars after every prognosticator following Section 4A picked them to lose.

Friday Night Lights Part X: INCREDIBLE! Jaguars stifle Bulldogs in section semis

After quarterback Brian Goodwin (#5) took a knee for the final time of the game with under 10 seconds on the clock, members of the Jaguars offense are shown congratulating one another on the biggest upset playoff win since 1993 by a B-B-E football team. That year the 4-4 Jaguars shocked undefeated and state-ranked Browerville 22-20 in their playoff opener. The 1993 team joined the 1988 and 1997 teams as the only three B-B-E football teams from 1988 to 2002 who won a playoff opener. Yes, they've been that rare. The Jaguars have won playoff openers since that era in 2003, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Final score: B-B-E 15, LP/HT 3

The B-B-E Jaguars football team gave up three points on the Bulldogs' first series of the game, when LP/HT kicked a field goal to go up 3-0. B-B-E started the game with the ball and didn't get much before going three-and-out.

At halftime, the Jaguars led 7-3. Both teams traded punch after punch throughout the first half, and that didn't change in the second half either.

Junior fullback Austin Kollman crossed the 1,000-yard season rushing mark early in the first quarter. He is the first B-B-E athlete to earn over 1,000 rushing yards in a season since 2007, when then-senior Austin Kampsen earned that feat in the second half of the playoff opener. The Jaguars lost that contest 32-27 at Minneota in a heck of a battle.

LP/HT, who averaged 39.1 points per game coming into this contest, finishes the season 8-2 overall; they were co-champions (5-1 record) of the Gopher Valley 'A' Conference with Blooming Prairie. Coincidentally, Blooming Prairie and Bethlehem Academy meet next weekend in the Section 1A championship. Bethlehem Academy was the only team to beat LP/HT in the regular season, when they won 18-10 in Week 3.

I still can't get over this: LP/HT scored an eye-popping total of 352 points this season through their first nine games. Against the Jaguars, they got three points. In 2011, when they beat the Jaguars 22-21 in this same game (section semi), they were averaging 29 points per game.

Speaking of LP/HT's offense, here is a video clip showing the only point of the game where the Bulldogs scored points tonight. It happened to be the first video clip I recorded in the game, and little did I know at the time that LP/HT would fail to score again!
 

Now 6-4 overall, having the most wins in a season of any B-B-E football team in the past 14 seasons, the Jaguars play at 1:00pm on Saturday afternoon, November 3 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. They face a red-hot Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City team in the Section 4A championship. The Falcons are 7-2 and absolutely demolished Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (4-6) in the other section semifinal game. Their QRF ranking is number two in the state in Class A, and they have a resume that makes them state champion contenders.

Two years ago in Grove City the Jaguars lost 15-6 in the section championship to A-C-GC.

Fifteen years ago in Eden Valley the Jaguars lost 14-12 in the Section 5AA championship to then-10th-ranked Eden Valley-Watkins. I could write a small novel about that game and will never forget it. A couple items from that game: the Jaguars trailed 14-0 at halftime and their defense gave up five net yards through the entire second half. It just wasn't meant to be.

Time to bust down that door, Jaguars! Let's do this!!!

After the game as players walked off the field, Julius Evenson ("Evy") walked between them giving out numerous pats on the back for the team's performance. He was impressed with the execution and clock management throughout the second half and especially as the final minutes wore down. Evy was on the coaching staff of the Belgrade Redmen football team in 1982 when they went 12-1 and played in the Prep Bowl. He's now a junior high football coach at B-B-E as well as one of a handful of stats takers who help out the varsity coaches.

Props to other Central Minnesota Conference teams who picked up wins tonight, including Maple Lake and Holdingford. In the same breath, it is unfortunate that those two teams had to play a fellow CMC member. (See scoreboard below) Six of the 8 CMC teams won playoff openers earlier this week, and now three of those six will play in different section championships across central Minnesota. Maple Lake gets a tough draw, getting #5 (QRF rankings) Mayer Lutheran (9-1) in the Section 4AA championship.

Holdingford faces neighboring Upsala-Swanville Area in the Section 6AA championship. They travel all the !*%*#*%#* way to Fargo for that game next Friday at 3:00pm. Don't even get me started on that one. (FYI, there's no reason they couldn't make the drive to Sauk Centre and play on their new FieldTurf...talk about saving some driving! WOW.)

Who's ready for some football?

Kickoff in Lester Prairie is at 7:00 tonight. The Jaguars have met Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity in the playoffs every year since 2009. They have one playoff win in three tries in that time, with a 14-10 loss in 2009 and a 22-21 loss in 2011. They beat the Bulldogs 41-6 in 2010 in the Section 4A semifinals to gain only the second section championship appearance in football in B-B-E history.

Playoffs! Step I = Sub-Section quarterfinal win for the Jaguar volleyball team!

Brittany Roelike hugged and hoisted Kendra Braegelman in the air right after the Jaguars earned match point in a 15-9 game five win. Kendra knocked down the game and match-winning kill to end the Osakis volleyball team's season.

The B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team won game five by a 15-9 score. What a grandiose battle it was!

Osakis finishes a sparking conference championship season (9-1 Prairie North record) with a final overall record of 21-8. They are no doubt a team with the talent and firepower to win close to half of the Class A sub-sections in Minnesota.

One telling comment came from someone who has had a front-row seat to the past two boys' basketball seasons. That person made the point that tonight's volleyball action brought an atmosphere that rivaled anything B-B-E has had in the last two winter seasons on that court. That is to take nothing away from the exciting games and packed, rowdy crowds who watched the Jaguars boys' basketball team on their home floor. It does reflect how absolutely fired up both the Osakis and B-B-E crowds were.

How about some props to the B-B-E parent/adult fan section? They were awesome! After a slow start, the B-B-E student section really got into it too, especially in game five. I am incredibly proud of every Jaguar who set foot in that gymnasium tonight.

The Jaguars (23-7) now get Bertha-Hewitt out of the Park Region Conference in the Sub-Section 5A-West semifinal, which is next Tuesday, October 30 in Long Prairie at 7:30pm. The Bears (21-8-1, 4-2 Park Region, third place) prevailed over fellow conference rival Verndale by 25-21, 25-10, 22-25, 25-17 scores. Bertha-Hewitt faced Osakis on September 8th in pool play at the Browerville tournament and beat the Silverstreaks 2-0 by 25-12, 25-23 scores. They have one player, Arei Stokes, who has played on the varsity team since 7th grade. She is no doubt motivated to beat the Jaguars if nothing else because her volleyball season ended at the hands of B-B-E in 2008, 2009 and 2010. All three years during that stretch, the Jaguars and Bears faced off in the sub-section championship.

Sebeka faces Upsala in the other sub-section semifinal match. This is the first year in recent memory that the sub-section tournament features cross-bracketing, which not only makes for a better tournament but it makes it more likely a team will face an unfamiliar opponent in round two. It makes it more likely that the best teams meet in the sub-section championship. (The downside, we lose a home playoff match...but I'm not complaining. The Long Prairie-Grey Eagle high school is only 38 miles away from the B-B-E high school.)


This is incredible! It shows what type of night it was. I took 291 photos at the volleyball match. I don't think I've ever shot over 150 pictures in a volleyball playoff opener.

Check this out: Red Rock Central 3, Westbrook-Walnut Grove 1 (#7 seed beats the #2 seed in Sub-Section 3A-South) ...upsets do happen! W-WG compiled a 22-6 regular season record, including a 9-1 mark in the Red Rock Conference (2nd)...eerily similar to B-B-E's regular season record of 22-7. The Chargers lost to a conference rival who finished 5th in their conference and had a 13-12 overall record. I am guessing they are pretty much numb tonight with a shocking 0-1 playoff record.

Osakis almost put the Jaguars in that same situation. Thankfully that didn't happen, and B-B-E advances out of the first round of playoffs for the 14th straight year!

Playoffs begin tomorrow for B-B-E Jaguar volleyball team

The Jaguars volleyball team hosts Osakis on Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the Sub-Section 5A-West tournament. The Silverstreaks, who won the Prairie North Conference title, defeated Kimball Area 8-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-17 in a play-in round match tonight on their court.

Osakis holds a 20-7 record, including a 9-1 mark in the Prairie North. The Jaguars are 22-7 heading into the playoffs.

What a wicked, wicked facemask infraction!

I still can't believe none of the referees saw that. They're human too, but that could have caused quite a serious injury!

Just saw this...Annandale's girls' tennis team finished as Class A runners-up after beating Rochester Lourdes 5-2 in the state semifinals and then losing to Blake 7-0. Annandale is in Section 5A along with B-B-E. The Jaguars lost to the Cardinals 6-1 to finish the regular season earlier this month.

What a convincing win to open the playoffs!

The sight on the scoreboard at the B-B-E football field following last night's playoff win.

Here are the statistics for 5th-ranked Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity from their playoff opener against Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart last night. They piled up 341 yards of rushing offense along with 150 yards through the air while absolutely crushing the Mustangs. LP/HT scored on a kickoff return, an interception return and an offensive touchdown all in the first minute of play.

The Bulldogs (8-1) host B-B-E on Saturday night in Lester Prairie in the Section 4A semifinals. Exactly 52 weeks prior from then, the Jaguars lost 22-21 in a playoff heart-breaker to the Bulldogs on the same football field. LP/HT ultimately won Section 4A and then lost a nailbiter 35-34 to fellow Gopher Valley 'A' Conference rival Blooming Prairie in the Class A state quarterfinals.

Friday Night Lights Part IX: Jaguars lead at halftime 19-8 in playoff opener!

The Jaguars celebrate their third straight win in a playoff opener!

The Jaguars football team scored on their first two possessions tonight against visiting MACCRAY to take an early 13-0 lead tonight. The Wolverines (2-6) responded with a touchdown of their own, and at halftime B-B-E has a 19-8 lead in the Section 4A quarterfinals.


The entire first half was played through a steady but light mist and drizzle.

Tonight is the first time the Jaguars hosted a playoff-opening game since 2008, when they beat Lakeview 28-20.  The Jaguars finished with 325 yards rushing and 59 yards passing.

Volleyball team's playoff map has been ironed out

The top-seeded Jaguars volleyball team enters the postseason this Friday with a home match at 7:00 against the winner of the Osakis-vs.-Kimball Area play-in round match.

If they win, they advance to the sub-section semifinals which will take place next Tuesday, October 30, at 7:30pm at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School.

The sub-section finals is two nights later in Pierz, followed by the section title match on Saturday, November 3 also in Pierz.

More details will follow later.

**Update: The Fish Fry fundraiser in support of the family of the Coach Vos family is this Friday night at 5:00pm at the Belgrade V.F.W. Just earlier today, the Belgrade Lions switched the venue for the fundraiser from the Brother's Bar. It was an awesome gesture for the Brother's Bar to step up initially to host the event, but as planning wore on for that night the Lions group decided that the V.F.W. would be better-equipped for the large crowd that will undoubtedly show up.

Get on your phones, I-pads and instant messaging devices and tell your friends and neighbors to come to the home playoff football game tomorrow.

Let's do this! The Jaguars deserve nothing less than a huge hometown crowd for their game against MACCRAY to open the Section 4A tournament. They finished with an above-.500 record in a conference schedule for only the third time in B-B-E history.

The B-B-E area community can show support for the Vos and Lieser families in two ways. First, the B-B-E Class of 2009 set up a savings account at the Bonanza Valley State Bank that accepts donations for Rich and Beth's children. Class officers have a Facebook group set up called "ClassOf2009MemorialForMrVosAndFamily".

The forecast for Tuesday is sunshine and a high in the low 60s.

So how about this, Jaguar Nation...let's have a thousand fans show up to cheer on the B-B-E football team on Tuesday night. Kickoff against MACCRAY is at 7:00pm at the B-B-E High School for the Section 4A quarterfinals.

A very, very special post-game interview on Wednesday night with Ross Rath and Patrick Rooney on KMGK 107.1 FM (Smooth Magic 107 of Glenwood)...

I was lucky enough to catch a good part of D-Mac's post-game interview as I left the parking lot on Wednesday night following the 26-6 win over Eden Valley-Watkins. I set my videocamera on the dashboard and hit record as I pulled away.

The Jaguars football team played with an unprecedented level of heart and courage on Wednesday as they were weighed down by heavy hearts. Kudos to both them and also the Jaguars volleyball team for winning their contests that night against very talented Eden Valley-Watkins teams.

It's tough

Thinking about the Vos and Lieser families are going through is tough. It's just hellish to think about Coach Vos's two children growing up without him. It's almost too much to think about.

Feeling joy right now is usually followed by a little guilt. It's like you wish you could somehow transfer some of the happiness in your own life to theirs, in the midst of a time where they're dealing with unimaginable grief.

I keep thinking to next Tuesday, the first day of school after Coach Vos's funeral. And the playoff football game later that night. I guess however the B-B-E student body (and staff) got through Tuesday and Wednesday of this week...that's how they'll get through next Tuesday...and days to come.

I think it's pretty accurate to say that next week won't be much easier for us than this past week was.

Pray for everyone I mention here.

This current tragedy makes me think of the B-B-E students who died either while in school or soon after their graduation. A short list that I know off of the top of my head are: Sarah Paulson (died in 1990 when a drunk driver killed her in California); Angie Oeltjenbruns (1993); Adam Hanson and Aaron Theis (2001); Trista Monson (2006); Dustin Terhaar (2011). 

Correction from an earlier post: the Jaguars wrestling team returns 3 of 3 state qualifiers from the 2011-12 season. I have no idea why I said earlier that it was only 2 of 3...all three of them are on this year's football team (Patrick Rooney, Ross Rath, Tyler Tensen). Needless to say Tuesday and Wednesday were major "blurs"...both being days where I cranked out a great deal of material via newspapers and blogs.

I'll also be adding a new e-mail account address to each post for the time being. I have to re-update the B-B-E Booster Club advertisement (at right) that doesn't include my rarely-used Hotmail account.

Funeral for Coach Vos fills high school gym

Mass of Christian Burial for the late Rich Vos, former math teacher and coach at B-B-E, drew over a thousand friends and family members to the high school gymnasium today.

Fr. Mark Stang, who got to know Rich Vos and his family quite well in the past few months he's been working in the B-B-E-area Catholic churches, called on everyone to honor the memory of Vos by continually lifting up his family and the school district in their prayers. Also during the Homily, Fr. Stang called on school students and others who worked closely with him to carry on the positive spirit that Vos always displayed whether it's in the classroom or on the athletic field.

Visitation went into 'overtime' last night

The stated time for the visitation last night for Coach Vos was 4:00 to 8:00pm. Beginning at 4:00, the crowd lined up near or right outside the doorways from the parking lot. A continuous steady flow packed themselves into the B-B-E Commons Area well past 8:00. When I left at 8:30, the line still had to wrap itself around the school. Visitation finally ended some time after 9:00.

Words can't describe...incredible turnout for Coach Vos's visitation

Over a hundred B-B-E graduates and current students signed special tributes to Coach Vos.

The crowd who filed through the commons area and auditorium of the B-B-E High School tonight is estimated to eclipse 1,200 people for the visitation of the late Coach Rich Vos, former math teacher and wrestling coach who was killed in an accident on Tuesday morning.

Get your rest, Jaguar Nation. Tomorrow will be a very, very difficult day to endure.

The volleyball team had an outstanding response to their Dig Pink night and breast cancer awareness fundraiser on Wednesday for their final match of the regular season.

While in spiritual terms, a funeral is a time to celebrate the life of a person who has passed from us, I see today and tomorrow as two dark, dark days for all of us.

The Jaguars host MACCRAY (2-6) next Tuesday in the football playoff opener. The Wolverines and Jaguars have met one time before, that being in 1997 when the two teams collided in the Section 5AA semifinals in Belgrade. The Jaguars trailed 15-14 at halftime but ended up stomping all over MACCRAY in the second half in a historic 29-14 win.

More on the playoffs will follow later.

Friday Night Lights Part VIII: Jaguars defeat Eagles during grief-stricken week

The Jaguars reached their helmets to the heavens tonight with heavy hearts following their first-ever win over Eden Valley-Watkins in football...

In a nutshell...as the entire community is still reeling from the tragic loss suffered only yesterday, the B-B-E Jaguars football team won 26-6 tonight to finish the regular season 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference. The win locks up the #3 seed in Section 4A. They'll host #6-seeded MACCRAY for the playoff opener next Tuesday night with a kickoff at 7:00pm.

*Section 4A playoffs update: Minneapolis North lost 62-36 tonight to finish 2-6 heading into playoffs and clinch the #5 seed; MACCRAY lost 48-7 to Minneota/Lincoln HI while being locked into #6 in the standings; Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart finished 1-7 and is the bottom seed at #7; Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg got drilled by Upsala/Swanville Area 50-15 to finish 3-5 and slide in at #4 to clinch the final home playoff game; Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity is at #2; Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City is the number one seed in Section 4A by virtue of their 6-2 overall record and a 60-7 annihilation of Class AAA Sauk Centre tonight.

Something to be proud of: the Jaguars finished 4-3 in the Central Minnesota Conference this season, which lands them in a tie for third place with Maple Lake. It's only the third time in B-B-E school history that the football team has finished with an above-.500 record in conference play. The other two seasons were in 1988 (4-0 and Prairie Lakes Conference champions) and 2008 (4-3 and tied for 3rd with Maple Lake and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted in the CMC).

I'll be up all night writing about this emotional game. Videos are uploading as I type this. Check back in the morning for more updates. It was a night that was incredible to be a part of and very difficult to endure all at the same time.

Fans high-fived the players as they walked single-file out of the stadium; many tears were being shed at that moment, with the memory of Coach Vos on everyone's mind...

Fun fact: the #3 seed earned by the Jaguars is the highest playoff ranking the squad has had since 1997, when they were seeded #2 in Section 5AA. In only three seasons of B-B-E football have they earned a playoff seed higher than #4 (1988, 1997, 2012).

Jaguar volleyball pays tribute to Coach Vos

The team gathered for a photo before taking on Eden Valley-Watkins tonight.

It was also Dig Pink night.

And to top it off, they defeated EV-W in three games to finish a perfect 7-0 in the Central Minnesota Conference. Stay tuned for a football game report later tonight. The B-B-E vs. EV-W gridiron clash is being aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood.

Somehow...we have to get up for Volleyball and Football tonight

Two huge, huge events are on tap tonight in Jaguar Nation.

First, at 5:00pm is a home volleyball match against Eden Valley-Watkins. The Jaguars need to beat the Eagles in order to ensure they win the Central Minnesota Conference outright.

Two hours later, the Jaguars football team hosts Eden Valley-Watkins in a must-win situation in order to secure a first-round home playoff game. This is HUGE! I don't have time to get into it, but first-round home football playoff game have been incredibly rare at B-B-E.

A side note. Funeral announcements have yet to be released by the Vos family. I will post as I get that information confirmed.

"This week, we are all  JAGUARS!"

Blast from the past...B-B-E's Travis Winter (Class of 2011) wrestling at the state tournament

A video clip from the 2010 state wrestling tournament...

Coach Vos is shown in the background with assistant coach Mike Richards (now teaching/coaching at Byron). Travis Winter was one of around 20 B-B-E Jaguar student-athletes he coached at the state wrestling tournament.

Here's another clip, this being from the 2010-11 season-opening tournament in December 2010 at the B-B-E High School. The coaches in the left corner are Coach Vos's assistants, and the Jaguar wrestler on the mat was a foreign-exchange student doing battle against a foreign-exchange student from West Central Area. I dubbed it the "Battle of Europe"!

At the end of the day, Coach Vos was all about the kids, his students and student-athletes. He was one of a kind.

Still can't believe it

Well, it's a little after 1:00 and I still can't believe this. I do not want to believe it! How do you function on a day like today? B-B-E is a very closely-knit school district and community. We take immense pride in how hard we work, how hard we play and how much we help one another when times are tough.
Luckily, we don't suffer tragedies like this as often as they can happen in larger towns/cities. The downside is, when tragedy strikes, it strikes a thousand times harder because everyone literally knows everyone.

Coach Vos's wife Beth and her family have long ties to B-B-E, as she is a B-B-E graduate and a former Jaguar athlete as well. They have two young children, making the tragedy seem a thousand times worse.

Make no doubt, the B-B-E community will respond with an outpouring of prayers to guide the Vos and Lieser families through this.

A large number of touching tributes have been posted on Facebook by current and former B-B-E students.

A few of them read:

Today we lost a teacher, father, husband, best friend, and a coach. Prayers go out to Zoey, Clay, and Beth. So many tears today from everyone, but just remember he is up there watching over us and the good times you had with him.
Forever in our hearts ♥ RIP Mr. Vos - best teacher ever.

Stomachs sank, tears shed, and hearts hurting is a feeling we all know today. A great teacher and a genuine hearted man. Mr. Vos you never gave up on us and we'll always remember you. Rest easy and know a community mourns.

 ...it is incredible how many posts i have read so far today about mr. vos and his family. it just proves how great of a man he was and how much he touched our community. prayers go out to the vos and lieser families. we love you and we miss you rich. rest in peace. ♥

Stay strong BBE..although we've lost a great person, teacher and coach, he leaves behind a great legacy and an amazing amount of lives touched. To read through the many posts is proof of this. Forever in our memory Coach Vos.

Thoughts and prayers to all my friends and associates in the BBE Community today. I'm truly sorry for your loss. Rich Vos was, to me, a great wrestling coach and motivator, plus a wonderful spokesperson for your school district. His impact will continue to be felt. Rich's contributions, both as a coach and an educator, will always be remembered. Condolences to Beth and the Vos family.

RIP Mr Vos... You always knew the right things to say to me, always dealt with my bs, you were a great teacher, coach, father, husband. Your love for your children was so amazing. You are inspiring. I wish I would've listened to you more. Prayers go out to the Vos family ♥

 

I've gathered by other news reports that the accident occurred close to the intersection of Kandiyohi County Road 34 and U.S. Highway 71 approximately one-third of a mile south of Crow River Lutheran Church.

Below is an example of the legacy of Coach Rich Vos. It shows the B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team during the Section 5A quarterfinal match last February at Osakis. The 5th-seeded Jaguars beat the 4th-seeded Silverstreaks by a wide margin. The team had a great season, finishing with a winning record with a young lineup. They return two of three state qualifiers from last year's team in 2012-13, including most of the varsity lineup.

I am confident that this year's version of the Jaguar Wrestling team will make Coach Vos proud.

Rest in peace, Coach Vos! You got the most out of your students and student-athletes and built the B-B-E wrestling program from the ground up. You coached with class and dedication and built a reputation of having wrestlers who always displayed good sportsmanship and a rock-solid work ethic. It will not be easy to replace you at B-B-E.
