Elrosa welcomes the Easter Bunny

The Easter bunny made an early visit to Elrosa today. The Easter bunny was escorted around town by the Elrosa Fire Department, with members of the Elrosa Commercial Club and Elrosa Baseball Club helping distribute candy bags to local children and senior citizens.

Video clip:

Last night the Easter bunny visited Belgrade, with the Belgrade Fire Department providing accommodations.

In news from around the country / world...

Government mandate: "Gotta stay 6 feet apart."

Okay...sounds reasonable.

Then we have 16 recovering drug addicts gathering (spread out) in a church sanctuary that holds 300. For some of them, the church is all they have. Their families have disowned them, they struggle to find gainful employment, and the hope and salvation offered by the pastor at this church is essentially the difference between being able to survive or folding up shop. Government response to that: "Shut this down! Threat to public health."

That's the current state of affairs. We have quite a fight on our hands.

A successful breakfast in Elrosa

Nearly 500 served in Elrosa this morning!

Great job, Elrosa Commercial Club!

Have you made your fan bus plans yet for the state basketball tournament? Let's get some buses ordered up!

In case you missed out on a church service today, here's a video from the lesson reading, Gospel reading, children's sermon and sermon at West Lake Johanna Lutheran church:

Speaking of basketball, here's a story from the 2019-2020 season opener between Cromwell-Wright and Minneota...Minneota won that game 49-47 just a couple weeks after they won the Class 1A state volleyball title. Seven Minneota girls' basketball players were on that volleyball team.

CRAZY fact: Minneota, the top-ranked and top-seeded team in the upcoming Class 1A state girls' basketball tournament, has just one senior on the roster (forward Morgan Hennen).

At the Bonanza Valley Voice, now we gear up for the state tournament while getting our March 12 issue ready for publishing. I've got an ambitious goal of publishing 14 pages this week.

Desk clearing

Here's some random notes from the news office of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper:

1. Turnout for the B-B-E Jaguars wrestling team hovers around 25, which is the highest we've had in many seasons. It is terrific and will undoubtedly bolster their chances of a deep playoff run if we can keep everyone healthy. Their opener is on December 2 at home.

2. Turnout for the B-B-E/Paynesville dance team is equally strong, with around 25 recruits working in pre-season drills and practices. Their opener is on December 10 at Albany.

3. The Brooten Commercial Club Santa Day is Saturday, December 10 with multiple activities starting at
12:30 p.m. at the Brooten Steak House (Classic Co.) and running into the evening.

4. The Elrosa Commercial Club Santa Day is also on Saturday, December 10. Their activities run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic church parish center.

And here's some video from the blizzard that I forgot to post on Friday night. It has been a very challenging weekend.

As always, read more details in the weekly issue of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper! We have 375 new subscribers since January 1, 2015, which represents an increase of over 60 percent in that time.

Santa in Elrosa!

Santa Claus met plenty of children this morning in Elrosa.

The Elrosa Commercial Club's Santa Day in Elrosa was a huge success this morning. A drawing for Elrosa Bucks was held afterwards, and during the hour-long event dozens of kids enjoyed visiting with jolly ol' Saint Nick himself. At least 47 kids showed up to take in the event along with dozens of parents, grandparents and other family. The Commercial Club gave away 15 $10 gift cards as an added perk.

*Update at 16:47...here's some video from Elrosa:

That's all I can report...time to get back to downtown Brooten for all of this!
