Elrosa vs. Regal amateur game (VIDEOS)

Elrosa's Saints amateur baseball team hosted Regal tonight in an exhibition border battle game under the mosquito-ridden stadium lights of Saints Field. The game was tied 2-2 until the Eagles put up a six-spot in the top of the sixth inning. Final: Regal 8, Elrosa 4.

I counted up and down the rosters of both teams and came to the total of 14 as the number of B-B-E graduates who were either on the Regal or the Elrosa rosters. A handful of B-B-E Class of 2022 graduates were not at the game but were instead tied up with graduation party-related activity with their peers.

**Here's video from the top of the seventh inning tonight:

**Here's video from the bottom of the seventh inning, during which the Saints loaded the bases but were able to only scratch one run across:

My videocamera tripod is currently in the repair shop, so I'm working without a reliable and simple way to record video in steady fashion. I hope to get it fixed before next Tuesday's baseball games at Minnewaska Area.

B-B-E graduate Adrian Belden got the pitching win for Regal in a starting performance where he went six innings with a pitching line of five hits, two earned runs, four walks and six strikeouts. B-B-E graduate Peyton Winter was tagged with the loss after he pitched the first five innings. Jackson Peter was closer with four innings on the mound. Both Peyton and Jackson were teammates on the 2022 St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones baseball team that competed in the NJCAA World Series.

Next: the Saints put their undefeated Stearns County League record on the line with a road game to bordering rival Greenwald tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

Saints edge Eagles

The Elrosa Saints amateur baseball team defeated Regal 5-3 today in a late afternoon exhibition game. They won in spite of leaving 12 runners stranded and having the game's lone error. The Saints scored twice in the second inning but fell behind 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh. They scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim their third straight win.

B-B-E Class of 2022 member Gavin Kampsen earned the pitching win in three innings of relief. He also hit a one out solo home run as part of Elrosa's 10-hit attack. The homer ignited the three-run top of the eighth to tie the game at 3-3. Brandon Roelike scored the game-winning run when Blaine Fischer drew a fourth consecutive walk in the inning.

Shane Radermacher, B-B-E Class of 2005, along with Nathan Meyer and Blake Karsch scored Regal's three runs.

At any given time, Buddy Beier Field in Regal was loaded with current or former B-B-E Jaguars. Elrosa played 11 Jaguars, while Regal had five Jaguars (all graduates) in action.

The Saints (4-3) host Meire Grove tomorrow (Sunday) in a Stearns County League North game. First pitch is at 1:30 p.m.

For Regal, they resume County Line League action when they travel the short trip east to the home of the Paynesville Pirates for a 12:30 p.m. Sunday game.

And! Congratulations to the St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones baseball team, who is the 2021 NJCAA Region 13 champions! B-B-E Class of 2020 graduate and current Elrosa Saints team member Jackson Peter is a key contributor on the team. He's played in 21 games this year with 60 plate appearances and has 17 hits in 49 at bats (.347) with nine RBI. I recall hearing that he had SCTCC's first hit of the 2021 season during the season opener on March 11 at U.S. Bank Stadium against Hibbing Community College. They lost that game 10-9, but they've won 25 of the 28 games played since that day while also going 11-1 in their conference.

The No. 9-ranked Cyclones defeated No. 5-ranked Century College 8-2 in a winner-take-all game of the Region 13 championship series on Saturday at Dick Putz Field. The Cyclones (25-4 overall) begin the College World Series on May 29. You can catch up on recent Cyclones baseball news at their college website: https://www.sctccathletics.com/sports/bsb/2020-21/news.

Regions: Day 3

Here's a recap of what's transpired so far today, Sunday, August 6 at the Region 15C amateur baseball tournament.
In a state-qualifying game, St. Martin defeated Elrosa 2-1. Elrosa now waits to see who wins between Richmond and New London-Spicer later today. The Saints and that game's winner will tussle next Saturday, August 12 at 1:30 p.m. in New Munich in the elimination bracket.

In the first of two elimination games, the Regal Eagles have a 3-0 lead over New Munich through five-and-a-half innings. The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third and then tacked on another run in the top of the sixth. The game also had a 30-minute rain delay that began around 3 o'clock.

Chris Beier was tagged out at the plate, when center fielder Grant Johnson hustled for a tough ball for the put out throw at home plate. It denied Regal from going ahead 4-0 and was good for the third out in the top of the eighth inning.

*Final score: Regal 3, New Munich 0. The Eagles made the most of just four hits in the game, and Shane Radermacher came in for relief of starter Josh Beier in the eighth inning to help shut the door on the Silverstreaks. Regal stays alive and will play next Saturday in the elimination bracket.

*Update: after two-and-a-half innings, the third game of the day in New Munich has a score of 0-0. Richmond is facing off with New London-Spicer in an elimination game. *Update at 7 o'clock...heading into the top of the ninth inning, Richmond has a 5-3 lead over the Twins. *Update: Richmond turned an F3+3U double play in the top of the ninth inning to end NL-S's season with a 5-3 win. Late Saturday night I made the decision to go 12 pages again in next week's Bonanza Valley Voice. This is unprecedented. I am truly shocked at heading into my third 12-page newspaper in a row. I can't thank the business community enough for their support of our hometown newspaper. However, as a result of all the work that goes into creating a 12-page newspaper, I will be able to rarely post updates here.

Hopefully you've made your own choice to support the newspaper in Brooten and subscribe for yourself! I invite you to be a part of the success we're enjoying here (180+ new subscribers since January 1)...
