Pancake feed is today - and the week ahead

Don't forget! The Glacial Ridge Ambulance pancake feed is tomorrow (Sunday) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brooten American Legion. Come out and support a great cause!

I'll get other community-related information posted here this afternoon and add some more state tournament video late tonight.

Tomorrow (Monday) we have a school board meeting at 7 p.m. on the schedule at the elementary school. The Belgrade city council meets at 7 p.m. for their regular meeting of the month.

This was a fun clip!! Part of it anyway...

And Hayfield got the last bucket of the first half...plus the first points of the second half. But the Jaguars put the pedal down again and pulled away from the Vikings as the second half wore on.

KaDe Shack news in Brooten

The KaDe Shack in Brooten is closed to the public in accordance with the governor's executive order.

However, owner Tom Kampsen is holding take-out hours and can still have off-sale for the time being, which also complies with that same state executive order. The public can call in to-go orders between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (this went into effect today)...you'll have to knock at the east or west door and wait for him to bring you your food. He may specify which door to come to once you talk to him to place your order.

Give Tom a call at 320-346-2233.

In Belgrade...
At Coop's Corner, owner Dani Davis and her staff are doing take-out orders as well. Their restaurant (take-out only) hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Also, the C-store will be closing at 8:30 p.m. each night. I grabbed a copy of their to-go menu tonight and will share a few items for the public. The phone number to Coop's Corner is 320-254-3204.

In Padua...
The Padua Pub also is offering take-out food. Their hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Phone number 320-352-2683.

And in other news...
Here's the latest that needs to be shared, an important local hotline for citizens of the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa area...here's a web article at the Bonanza Valley Voice website describing the local COVID-19 hotline at Glacial Ridge Health System in Glenwood/Brooten/Starbuck. (Short link) https://bit.ly/2w9tUfy.

As of 9 a.m. this morning, Minnesota had 77 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with no deaths (knock on wood).

As of 18:37 tonight, the United States has 150 deaths confirmed as stemming from the COVID-19 virus.

Here's something...shows how culpable China is...good gravy! https://fxn.ws/393pAvE.

Breaking news in health care

This was published in this week's Belgrade Observer, and I just learned about it last night.

CentraCare Health is closing their Belgrade clinic. The last day they will see patients in Belgrade is June 28.

They had cut to just three days a week of service in Belgrade back in January.

Meanwhile, I want to remind everyone that Glacial Ridge Health System of Glenwood is proud to offer a wide array of health care services at the Brooten Medical Center. They are open five days a week, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Their address is 111 Pleasant Avenue, mailing P.O. Box 69...phone number 320-346-2272.

Glacial Ridge Health System has been a loyal, faithful partner with the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper ever since they opened the clinic in Brooten in the early 1980s. (About 1984?)

Which reminds me, I should do a little research on that! And write about the beginnings of how that came about. I know it happened soon after the Brooten Creamery closed.

(VIDEO) Boys' basketball sub-section finals

Here's a Bonanza Valley Voice iMovie production featuring video clips from the final four minutes of the Sub-Section 5A-South championship game between the B-B-E Jaguars boys' basketball team and the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars.

Needless to say, action was tense down the stretch!

It will rate as one of the more exciting playoff wins I've seen in 25+ years of watching B-B-E Jaguar basketball.

While I've got your attention here...this is a preview of what will be published in the upcoming Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper. I am asking for help promoting this event! The B-B-E Area Jaycees does countless wonderful activities throughout Jaguar Country. Let's show our support by sharing this link! https://bit.ly/2VZBel4 (short link to copy/paste).

THANK YOU to our business sponsors of this video coverage! Bonanza Valley State Bank as well as Glacial Ridge Health System.

Tyler Bents, Kaleb Voss, Adam Jaeger, Ben Feuerhake and Josey Tensen have advanced to the finals at the NLS tournament.

As a team the Jaguars wrestlers are in the running for first place!

Update: all five Jaguars in the finals took second place. As a team, the Jaguars finished second behind Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity.

**Catch an interview of our head wrestling coach, Jack Mueller, at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. I didn't get that this morning. I must have heard the wrong time.

Members of the Glacial Ridge Ambulance staff with some of the toys collected.

Here's a message from Glacial Ridge Health System in Glenwood:

The Glacial Ridge Ambulance team thanks everyone who contributed to our Holiday Toy Drive! We are proud to be part of giving hundreds of area kids a merrier Christmas because of your generosity. The toys pictures are only a portion, about one-third, of what was collected! All financial donations are spent locally, everything stays local. Gifts are distributed through the Pope County Family Collaborative and the BBE School District. Thank you to Shopko, Screen Prints Plus and Fleet Supply for discounting purchases going toward the toy drive. Happy Holidays!
