Padua Pub hosting Customer Appreciation today

The Padua Pub Customer Appreciation is being held today until 8 p.m. This was advertised in the December 11 issue on page 3.

THANK YOU, Dave and Clara! My family will be there later this evening!

Also! Don't forget about Bonanza Valley State Bank and Kensington Bank...they are both loyal and regular supporters of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper and our sports department! Click to read about their events coming on Friday: BanksCustomerAppreciation2025.

The Padua Pub was hopping tonight! I enjoyed visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Julius Evenson of Crow Lake Township. Always a treat to see good friends out and about in our communities!

Let's go back almost 2 weeks to the Brooten Santa Day evening:

When the dust settles, I'll have Brooten Santa Day coverage in the December 11, 18 and 25 newspaper issues.

Customer appreciation in Padua! (Updates)

Today is the day to drive to Padua! If you haven't already...

The many fine patrons of the Padua Pub are invited to a Customer Appreciation Lunch/Supper meal on Wednesday, December 18 (TODAY) at the Pub. They will serve a complimentary lunch from noon to 8 p.m.

Now that I'm out from under the massive weight of a massive, 16-page newspaper that published earlier today, I'll circle back and fill out the previous sports blog post. Video is coming. Update: the previous blog post received additions and edits after 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Thursday, December 19 update...
B-B-E schools began weather announcements for the 2024-2025 school year with a two-hour late notice released last night. Earlier today, on Thursday, the school announced that they will be closed today with the exception of the daycare in Brooten. All evening activities are also cancelled, including the home dance competition. The dance comp will be rescheduled (hopefully)...stay tuned!

Also, the Bonanza Valley Voice website has been updated with three new web articles with video...click here to see that: https://www.bonanzavalleyvoice.com.

Time to shovel more snow!

St. Patrick's Day celebration coming to Padua: a TWO day affair!

You can read all the details by clicking over to the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper website: https://shorturl.at/ltzDQ.

The web article posted there also features a video from the March 2021 St. Patrick's Day parade.

In the "remarkable news" category...today, Sunday, the B-B-E Class of 2032 girls' basketball fourth grade team competed in the Region 3 Pacesetter tournament in Redwood Falls. With 11 players, they competed against five teams for a berth in the state tournament. They played incredible, incredible defense all day long. It was something you really had to see for yourself. In pool play against the eventual region champion, Hutchinson, the Jaguars lost 4-0. Hutchinson went on to defeat Yellow Medicine East by a score of 24-2 in the Region 3 championship game. Needless to say, the future is bright for this team!

Also coming this weekend...
The Belgrade Lions will host their annual Chili Cook-off fundraiser on Saturday, March 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Belgrade VFW. Details have been published in the past two issues of the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper.

On Tuesday...sad news! Mr. Keith Clementson passed away. He was one of my favorite teachers at B-B-E. You can see his obituary here: https://shorturl.at/bknR5. This news has weighed on me all day. He was a great man who cared deeply for his students. His daughters Susanne and Dawn were Belgrade-Elrosa high school graduates, while his daughter Amy graduated from B-B-E high school in 1991.

Here's a video clip from last year's sweet corn feed on July 21, 2021...exactly 52 weeks ago!

State girls' basketball

At the quarterfinals round of the Class 1A state tournament, unseeded Nevis lost 73-38 to No. 3-seeded Hancock today in Minneapolis.

Unseeded Minneota stunned top-seeded Mountain Iron-Buhl by a 51-38 overtime score in another quarterfinal game. Both teams finished the game with 27-4 records, but it will be the Vikings moving on to the Final Four round. Minneota outscored the Rangers by a 6-3 score in the extra period. Minneota attempted just two field goals in overtime and made one of them; they went 4-of-5 at the free throw line. MI-B shot five two-pointers and four three-pointers and missed all nine field goal attempts. They went 3-of-4 at the line.

Mayer Lutheran and Hayfield won the other two quarterfinal games earlier today.

In other news...
The Padua Pub held a magnificent St. Patrick's Day parade attended by a crowd of hundreds of people from throughout west central Minnesota. I've got a short video clip added to the Bonanza Valley Voice newspaper website that you can find by clicking here: https://bit.ly/3IsaBgA.

A wonderful banquet

I made the trip east to the Padua Pub tonight and enjoyed a wonderful evening at the B-B-E Jaguars volleyball team banquet. Awards were given for C, JV and varsity teams from the three coaches. Fall sports are now in the books!

I have ample video to post on Friday. Have a good night, and travel safely! The roads are still a little touchy.

Update: due to technical difficulties on Friday I am unable to get any more posted.

St. Patrick's Day in Padua!

Their parade outside the Padua Pub starts at 1:00pm. Looks like the weather will cooperate just fine.

I will miss it unfortunately. Too much writing left to do. I'm sure I'll see photos from Padua on Facebook that I can repost.

Congratulations, Dave and Clara

Dave and Clara Rooney with State Representative Paul Anderson of rural Starbuck.

Two outstanding, wholesome, hard-working individuals who reside in the B-B-E community, Dave and Clara Rooney, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary today at the Padua Pub, which they own and operate.

I saw this on Facebook, photo courtesy of State Rep. Paul Anderson.

God Bless the Rooneys! They've got a number of grandkids who are now students at B-B-E. Their own children are Brooten High School and B-B-E graduates between the late 1980s and 1999.
