Action shots from the BBE vs. Maple Lake girls basketball win on Friday night

A total of 120 photos from the girls basketball win on Friday night are at the Sauk Centre Herald website photo gallery: http://saukherald.mycapture.com/mycapture/folder.asp?event=1161377&CategoryID=64636&ListSubAlbums=0

Also, just heard, B-B-E is closing at 12:30pm today, in lieu of the blizzard that's heading our way in west central Minnesota. Bitter cold, strong winds, and three to four inches of light snowfall will all band together for a strong mid-winter punch for our area.

In other news, I just got the team scores for wrestling action on Friday night. At the Browerville/Eagle Valley dual tournament on Friday night, the Jaguars wrestling team won twice and lost once. Results were: Border West 53, B-B-E 14. B-B-E then beat up on West Central Area 62-16. The Jaguars beat the host B/EV Broncos 55-15 in the night cap, in an important match up against a team in Section 5A.

A great night in Jaguar country - girls basketball and wrestling teams both pick up wins

Julie Hieserich driving against heavy pressure from the Irish defense early in the first half of tonight's game.

The Jaguars girls basketball team came back from a 24-27 halftime deficit to defeat visiting Maple Lake 49-46 in a Central Minnesota Conference game. The Jaguars trailed the entire first half and didn't pull in front until there was 11:19 left, when Maggie Gruber hit a shot down low to put her team up 34-33.

Up next for the girls basketball team: a short road trip to neighboring rival Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, next Tuesday night, for a non-conference game. The Jaguars are now 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the CMC.

Central Minnesota Conference results on Jan. 28:
Eden Valley-Watkins 44, Kimball Area 41
HL-W-W 47, Pierz 45 (CMC race is up for grabs))
Rockford 52, Holdingford 48 ...parity has forced its way into the CMC.

Near the end of this clip, Hieserich drains a three to get the Jaguars' offense moving in the first half, after they fell behind 12-2 vs. Maple Lake.

The Jaguars closed the first half with a 5-0 run to get within three, down 27-24 at the break.

Action from the final two minutes of the second half, up to 39 seconds remaining, when the Jaguars held a 48-46 lead.

Up in Browerville, the Jaguars wrestling team picked up two wins in a dual meet tournament. They lost to state-ranked Border West before defeating West Central Area and Browerville/Eagle Valley.

Border West is the favorite to win Section 6A this year. Against WCA, the Jaguars limited the Knights to wins in only three matches. The win over the Browerville/Eagle Valley Broncos is important for sub-section seeding purposes. The Jaguars (5-13) have a real shot at a #7 playoff seed and a play-in round home match for the beginning of the Section 5A team tournament in mid-February.

Area girls basketball result on Jan. 28:
Sauk Centre 72, Paynesville 32
Underwood 40, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 33 (OT)

Area boys basketball result on Jan. 28:
Melrose Area 64, Mora 59
New London-Spicer 63, Foley 55
West Central Area 84, Frazee 51
Benson 66, Morris Area/C-A 55 (a huge sub-section and conference win for Roger Lindahl's sub-.500 Braves, who improve to 7-8)
Hancock 63, KMS 35 (Owls' first win of the year)
ACGC 69, YME 56
Montevideo 53, LPQV 35
Ashby 55, Brandon/Evansville 53 (B/E is in a tailspin)
Eden Valley-Watkins 67, Paynesville Area 52

Regarding the Benson win vs. MA/CA, the senior point guard for MA/CA is out with some type of ligament injury, according to Minnewaska head coach Phil Johnsrud. Coach Johnsrud and his Lakers squad is gearing up for a battle at Morris next Tuesday night. From what he's heard, Erickson is out for 2 to 3 weeks, a status that could change for the better or worse. Erickson, who was a talented quarterback for the last-ever Chokio-Alberta/Herman-Norcross football team the past two years, helped lead MA/CA to a West Central South Conference championship last season and a 25-3 overall finish.

A fast-paced game is underway at home, Jaguars boys basketball takes early lead vs. Holdingford, ultimately blow Huskers away 77-43

Racing out of the gate to early leads of 4-0, 8-2, and 13-6, the Jaguars boys basketball team is off to a great start against visiting Holdingford tonight in a Central Minnesota Conference game.

In this week's Class A state rankings, the Jaguars find themselves rising to the #2 spot out of 171 teams in that division of boys basketball in Minnesota. Sebeka is the top-ranked team.

The Huskers entered tonight's game with a 4-10 overall record, 2-4 (7th) in the CMC.

Halftime score: B-B-E 32, Holdingford 22.

True to form, the Jaguars were not happy with a 10-point lead at halftime and knocked any thought of an upset from the Huskers' minds with a 19-7 run over the first six minutes of the second half. Three pointers from the Huskers' Damon Westrich and Ben Schwanberg made it a 55-36 game with about nine minutes left, but the Jaguars found another gear in their game and closed out their seventh Central Minnesota Conference win on a 22-7 run.

Final score: B-B-E 77, Holdingford 43. Running time employed down the stretch, when the Jaguars (16-0) had opened up a 35-point lead. For the first time ever, the B-B-E Jaguars have started the conference schedule with a perfect 7-0 mark. The previous best mark of 6-0 was set first in 2001-2002 and then tied in 2008-2009. I'm not 100% sure but 99% sure that in the West Central South Conference, the best start in league play was 5-0 back in 1996-1997.

Outstanding radio coverage of the game was provided by Bill Dean and Don Leukam, broadcasting on 106.5 FM The Train out of Norway Lake/Sunburg.

Central Minnesota Conference boys basketball results on Jan. 27:
Maple Lake 62, Rockford 50
Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 74, Kimball Area 61 (a solid win for the Lakers in Kimball)
Pierz 78, Eden Valley-Watkins 51 (12 Pioneers scored))

Notes from the Pierz vs. EV-W game last night...courtesy of the Little Falls radio announcer, Rick Grammond, the voice of the Pioneers..."Derek Streit was the lone Eagle to put up double figures, as he hit 4 three-pointers on his way to a season-best 14 point effort. 8th grader Brett Mattice scored 9 points, all from beyond the arc. The Eagles played their 2nd straight game without their top player, Peter Stenger, who remains sidelined with a knee injury suffered 2 games ago against Rockford. Stenger is averaging a double-double (10.6 rpg, 10.3 ppg). EV-W is 1-6 in the CMC and 4-11 overall. They travel to Paynesville for a border battle this Friday, then host the Jaguars on Tuesday."

Area girls basketball scores on January 27:
CMC score: Maple Lake 70, Holdingford 52 (don't believe that yet)
Sauk Centre 89, Albany 65 (wow!)
NL-S 77, Foley 28
Parkers Prairie 50, Brandon/Evansville 44 (Panthers get a scare in a Little Eight Conference battle against the arch-rival Chargers)
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 69, Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 37
Mora 58, Melrose Area 40

Area boys basketball scores on January 27:
Sauk Centre 66, Albany 49
Rosholt (SD) 61, Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 54 (OT) (The Warriors' 4-game win streak is halted)
Upsala 78, Swanville 27
Eagle Valley 56, Royalton 52
Battle Lake 63, Osakis 41

More to follow in the morning.

Coming up for the Jaguars - boys basketball is on 106.5FM The Train tonight

Also, the Jaguars wrestling team travels to the Browerville/Eagle Valley Broncos Invitational on Friday, held at Browerville High School.

The Jaguars girls basketball team will host Maple Lake in a Central Minnesota Conference game on Friday.

On Saturday, the B-B-E Dazzlers danceline team travels to Swanville for a dance invitational.

Fun fact: after being limited to 53 points of offense against Paynesville on Monday night, the Jaguars boys basketball team is still averaging 75 points per game. They have a 24-point differential between their offense and defensive average a little over halfway through the regular season. Not too shabby!

Noteworthy - the price of one missed layup

At a future date, I'll add more detail to this.

In the 2001-2002 season, which was a very exciting and memorable year for the B-B-E Jaguars boys basketball team, one bad play was the difference between being Central Minnesota Conference champions and settling for a second place finish.

One play.

It ended up being a missed layup in one of their conference games in February that gave the Jaguars the second of their two CMC losses, in a season where they finished 12-2 in the conference. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted would finish 13-1 that year.

Since I've got your attention here, I want to add that tomorrow night's boys basketball game at home against Holdingford will be aired on 106.5 FM The Train. Both Bill Dean and Don Leukam will be providing the play-by-play coverage.

Blast from the past - January 30, 2002 - "Supercharged atmosphere" for the HLWW vs. BBE boys basketball game

One night after a crucial 70-51 win for sub-section rankings over Osakis, the #7-ranked (Class A) Jaguars boys basketball team hosted Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted at the BBE High School on January 30, 2002. The Osakis win gave the Jaguars a 13-0 record, setting a new record for basketball wins in a row at B-B-E.

HL-W-W came to town undefeated in the Central Minnesota Conference, along with the Jaguars. A sold-out crowd and two high-octane teams made for a "supercharged atmosphere" at the high school gymnasium.

Late in the second quarter, the Jaguars had built a 10 point lead over HL-W-W. The Lakers heated up in the final two minutes to close the gap to a 37-36 deficit.

The Lakers would go on a 12-2 run to stake a 59-48 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In the end, playing a fourth straight game on a weekday had taken its toll on the Jaguars, and once the fast-paced game was completed, a balanced, athletic Lakers team outlasted a determined, hustling Jaguar squad 85-69. The Lakers outscored the Jaguars 26-19 in the fourth quarter.

Seven HL-W-W players scored between nine and 18 points. They also out-rebounded the Jaguars by a 37-30 margin. The Jaguars made 10 three pointers, but it wasn't enough on this night, as they fell to 13-1 overall.

Jaguars boys basketball improves to 15-0 after drubbing Hancock 69-27, Kimball knocks down Jaguar girls' hoops team 45-38, Wrestlers split at Rockford

With running time employed for the final half of the second period, the Jaguars boys basketball team defeated the host Hancock Owls 69-27 to move to 15-0 overall this season. After holding a 30-21 lead at halftime, the Jaguars came out with a vengeance and took the Owls out in knockout fashion, scoring a 21-1 run in the first seven minutes of the second half.

The Jaguars (6-0 CMC) will host Holdingford in their next action this Thursday night. The Huskers (4-10, 2-4 CMC) fell to Upsala (12-2) tonight in a non-conference border battle by a 71-53 final score.

Only six teams in Class A out of 171 remain undefeated this season in boys basketball, as Springfield lost tonight at Redwood Valley 72-68 in overtime. Battle Lake, who is in Sub-Section 6A-South, survived a stiff challenge in Brandon from Brandon/Evansville tonight in a Little Eight Conference clash by a 38-34 score.

In wrestling action tonight, the Jaguars wrestling team went 1-1 at the Rockford Triangular. They lost to Royalton/Upsala/Swanville 40-26 before defeating the host Rockets 39-25. Their next action is at the Pierz Triangular next Tuesday, February 1, against the host Pioneers and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted.

Final score in a home game tonight, the Jaguars girls basketball team fell to 4-9 overall with a tough 45-38 loss to Kimball Area. The Jaguars held a slim 18-16 halftime lead, took a few early leads up to a 23-23 tie, but the Cubs pulled away after that. The Cubs moved to 8-6 overall and 5-2 (2nd place) in the CMC. Up next, the girls basketball team looks to get back on track when they host Maple Lake (0-6 CMC, 6-8) this Friday night.

Jaguars boys basketball wins 53-33 over Paynesville in a typically difficult border battle between the neighboring schools

After leading 16-8 at halftime, the Jaguars boys basketball team built a double digit lead early in the second half and went on to win convincingly over the Paynesville Area Bulldogs in a non-conference border battle tonight. Now 14-0, the Jaguars have established a new record for consecutive wins in basketball at B-B-E. The previous record was set in 2001-2002 during a 13-0 start to the season.

Earlier in the night, the Jaguars B-squad team won 50-39 over the Bulldogs.

The Jaguars have little time for rest, as they gear up for a trip out west to Hancock on Tuesday night. The Owls are members of Sub-Section 6A-South with the Jaguars, so it will be an important game to set the tone for playoff seeding in March.

Tonight's game was aired on Smooth Magic 107 FM of Glenwood. D-Mac, as usual, provided outstanding coverage for the team, including very nice post-game interviews of Brady Koehler and Kirby Montbriand.

Player introduction prior to tip off tonight...the first 20 seconds are rough, I got there late and was putting my tripod on the camera after I started recording.

Tip off and the opening 30 seconds of the game...

One of those enjoyable border battles is coming tonight between B-B-E and Paynesville Area

The last Paynesville Area boys basketball win over B-B-E was in the March 2008 Sub-Section 6AA-East quarterfinal round on a last-minute three pointer in a game that featured over 20 lead changes. The Jaguars led 69-66 on their home court before giving up two unanswered buckets to the Bulldogs after leading 69-66 in the final two minutes of the game. The Jaguars were seeded #4 that season, with the Bulldogs ranked #5 in the sub-section.

Generally speaking, when these teams meet you throw the records out the window at tip-off.

The game is on Smooth Magic 107 of Glenwood. (See more on that below.)

Both Jaguar boys and girls basketball teams scorch the nets tonight win shootout wins, girls 79-76 vs. Rockford and boys 84-80 at Pierz

The Jaguars girls basketball team shook off a four-game losing streak in the Central Minnesota Conference with a high-scoring 79-76 win over visiting Rockford tonight. Senior post Maggie Gruber went 2-of-2 at the free throw line to ice the game with :03 ticks on the clock. Her free throws made it 79-73, before the Rockets launched a successful three pointer at the final buzzer. In the final half of the first half of the game, the Jaguars trailed 30-22 before going on a 12-0 run to seize control before halftime.
The Jaguars improve to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the CMC. Rockford is 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the CMC. **A shocker at Kimball tonight, as the host Cubs defeat CMC front-runner and CMC unbeaten Pierz 62-53. Six games into the campaign for the CMC title, the Cubs are actually in the race at 4-2 (along with HL-W-W). Pierz is 5-1 in the league.

At Pierz tonight, the Jaguars boys basketball team is coming home with an 84-80 win. Glad to hear they picked up the "W", as Pierz is always a tough place to play at - no matter how good you are or how down they are. The Jaguars improve to 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the CMC. The 13 wins to start the season ties the 2001-2002 squad for the longest winning streak for B-B-E basketball.

Pierz (5-9 overall) falls into a virtual tie for second place in the CMC at 3-2. Other teams with two CMC losses are Kimball Area, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, and Maple Lake.

While I've got your attention, I can't forget to mention that the Jaguars wrestling team is in action at the NL-S tournament on Friday. The next day, this Saturday, the B-B-E Dazzlers danceline team will compete at the NL-S Invite. More details on that will follow on Friday.

Jaguars boys basketball team buries Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted - Final score 71-48

The #4-ranked Jaguars boys basketball team has built a 46-21 lead heading into the second half at Howard Lake. Final score: B-B-E 71, HL-W-W 48. Impressive if you ask me! Coming into the game, HL-W-W was rated #31 out of 127 teams in the QRF rankings for Class AA on Minnesota-Scores.net, only two spots behind New London-Spicer. This was a high quality win for the Jaguars. Another little nugget to ponder: in the last three years, the Jaguars have only three conference losses, with two of them coming during their trip to HL-W-W.

With all that said, I have to get this off my chest, it's terribly frustrating that NL-S isn't on the Jaguars' schedule! I do know for a fact it is because NL-S is afraid of losing to the Jaguars. And I know damn well that Jayme Moten wouldn't hit nine threes against the Jaguars either. (Eat crow, Wildcat fans)

The Lakers fall to 2-2 in the Central Minnesota Conference and 9-4 overall. Tonight is the first time since January 28, 2005 that the Jaguars have won at HL-W-W's house. In that meeting, the Jaguars beat the Lakers 41-39, avenging a loss suffered in their first meeting on December 14, 2004 in a 61-58 final in Belgrade that marred a 4-0 start to the Jaguars' season that year.

The 12-0 start by the Jaguars this season ties the 1996-1997 squad for the second-best winning streak to start a season. Fourteen seasons ago, the Jaguars started 12-0, then went 5-5 the rest of the regular season while finishing 8-4 (2nd) in the West Central South Conference and then also second in the Section 5A tournament.

The Jaguars have another strong test coming this Thursday, when they travel to Pierz for another CMC showdown against a very good Pioneers squad. Pierz was nipped by Kimball tonight by two points, no surprise considering what Kimball did against the Jaguars last week.

Central Minnesota Conference boys basketball results on January 18:
Kimball Area 56, Pierz 54 (Pioneers definitely miss the guys who are out for two weeks)
Maple Lake 66, Holdingford 41

Notes on the Kimball vs. Pierz game, courtesy of Little Falls radio sports broadcaster Rick Grammond: The Kimball Cubs handed the Pierz Pioneers their first loss in the CMC with a 56-54 win in Kimball tonight. Pierz jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game, but then went ice cold from the field and Kimball got their offense going, rattling off 13 consecutive points to grab the lead. Kimball led 24-19 at halftime. The Pioneers battled back, led by the hot hand of Preston Weber, eventually taking a 41-40 lead with about 3:30 left to play. Credit the Cubs, though. They run a disciplined half court offense and hit some key free throws down the stretch. Neil Helgeson led Kimball with 14 while Dillon Menson had 10. Weber led all scorers with 29, including 22 in the 2nd half. In his last 3 games, Weber has scored 27, 32 and now 29. Caleb Janson had another double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Pierz is now 3-1 in the CMC and 5-7 overall.

Jaguars vs. Lakers showdown in the Central Minnesota Conference is underway

Check back around 8:45pm to see some updates from the game!

Jaguars girls basketball comes back from 16 points down to trail 31-22 at halftime vs. Hancock, ultimately loses 63-40 to state-ranked Owls

The Jaguars girls basketball team fell behind by as many as 24 points in the second half, though, as Hancock won for the 12th time this season against no losses. The Owls are looking for a top two seed in Sub-Section 6A-South, and tonight they showed no reason why they shouldn't be considered one of the teams to beat in Section 6A.

The Owls jumped out to leads of 8-0 and then 29-13 before the Jaguars closed out the first half on a 9-2 run.

Fifth-ranked Hancock was helped by 21-of-23 shooting from the free throw line. For the Jaguars, junior Shyan Kuefler had a huge night, getting 19 points and 9 rebounds.

In this clip below, Shyan Kuefler forces a jump ball on a Hancock inbounds pass. Later, Raeann Sorenson slashes into the lane for a layup to cut into a big Hancock lead. With 6:36 left in the first half, Hancock was up 25-13.

Kuefler, along with Ashley Kirckof, earn points at the line for the Jaguars in the first half tonight.

Hopefully many of you can make the 65-70 mile trip tomorrow to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School, three miles south of Howard Lake. There, the Lakers will host our Jaguars boys basketball team in a showdown between top teams in the Central Minnesota Conference. While I doubt the team is, I sure am nervous about it! Hopefully the Jaguars are in top form and come back home with a win.

Jaguars boys basketball blasts 7-1 Brandon/Evansville by 30+ points

In a non-conference game between sub-section opponents, the Jaguars boys basketball team made a big statement with an 85-51 win over visiting Brandon/Evansville in an afternoon game today. They've still got a long ways to go to being at playoff form, but today's game was a step in the right direction. They'll need to bring the same type of performance for their next game, at Howard Lake next Tuesday. (See more on that below)

At halftime, the Jaguars (11-0) had built a 38-21 lead. The Chargers (7-2) would get no closer than 16 points in the second half. The Jaguars made a racket out of the Chargers' transition defense, taking it down court with break neck speed at every opportunity.

The Chargers only other loss was on January 4 to West Central Area in two overtimes, 71-66.

Up next for the Jaguars: their toughest test in conference play so far, when they travel to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Tuesday in a Central Minnesota Conference game. The Lakers are 2-1 in the CMC and 9-3 overall.

Jaguars girls basketball trails 39-26 at halftime at Pierz - Final score: 74-50 loss

With 9:38 left in the first half, the Jaguars girls basketball team trailed 22-10.

The Pioneers had jumped out to a big early lead, then the Jaguars cut it to a 10-7 deficit. Pierz went on a 12-0 run to blow the game open with a 22-7 lead. Brittany Roelike helped break the Pioneers' run when she fed Erin Anderson in the paint for the Jaguars' second field goal of the game.

At the 3:00 mark in the first half, the Jaguars had kept pace with Pierz for a period of time to trail 34-23.

The Jaguars scored the first five points of the second half to cut the deficit to 39-31. The Pioneers put the throttle down, though, to go up 61-44 with six minutes remaining.

Final score: Pierz 74, B-B-E 50.

Pierz improves to 9-4 overall and 5-0 in the CMC. They lead the conference alone with an unblemished record. The Jaguars fall to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the CMC. They are effectively knocked out of the conference race with this loss. Of course, they still have plenty of season to play for and the sub-section race could get interesting if they can heat up and get to .500 or better heading into March.

Jaguar wrestlers go 1-1 at Osakis Triangular

The Jaguars wrestling team picked up a big win over United North Central 48-25 to earn their fourth team win of the season.

In the first dual of the triangular, Osakis beat UNC 39-36. UNC is a pairing of Sebeka and Menagha which also takes place in football.

In the nightcap, the Jaguars built an 18-point lead at 33-15 heading into the final three weight classes against Osakis. The Silverstreaks earned a third period pin at 189 and then won two pins at 215 and 285 to force a 33-33 tie.

Osakis won on criteria, whereby they scored the first points in 8 matches and B-B-E scored the first points in 6 matches. I'm not sure how far down on the tiebreaker criteria that is, but I know it isn't near the top of the list.

Today, the Jaguars will compete at the Paynesville Area Tournament beginning at 4:00pm.

Jaguar boys survive their toughest test of the season to win 70-68 in overtime against Kimball

In a very low-scoring overtime period, the Jaguars boys basketball team went five-for-six from the free throw line to edge the lone bucket by Kimball, a three pointer with under 10 seconds left. Final score: B-B-E 70, Kimball Area 68. The game was tied at 65-65 after regulation was complete.

In the final minute of the overtime period with the Jaguars up 67-65, Brady Koehler delivered his third blocked shot of the game. Moments later, Kevin Kuefler was fouled hard at mid court with 16.2 seconds left. He went to the line and sank two double bonus free throws to give his team a four point cushion. The Cubs showed their perseverance when Cameron Hunt drained a long three pointer to close the gap to one. Then with two seconds left, Brady Koehler was fouled and went 1-of-2 on double bonus shots to put the Jaguars up by two. The Jaguars had only five team fouls at that point, so they committed an intentional foul to break up the action with .4 seconds left. The Cubs were unable to get a shot off on their final inbounds play and were sent home with their fourth loss of the year.

The Jaguars, who led 36-35 at halftime, are now 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Central Minnesota Conference, while Kimball falls to 6-4 and 2-2 in the CMC. On Saturday, once-beaten Brandon/Evansville comes to town to face the Jaguars in a home non-conference game. The Chargers (7-1) are also in Sub-Section 6A-South.

As far as the Pierz fiasco goes, this is confirmed: Out for two weeks (four games) for the Pioneers boys basketball team will be 2 senior captain starters, 1 sophomore starter, 1 senior bench and 1 junior bench. Apparently all five contribute heavily to the varsity team, but it apparently didn't affect them in their big win over visiting Rockford tonight.

A standing-room only crowd was on hand in Clara City tonight, with the visiting Montevideo Thunderhawks defeating the Maccray Wolverines 64-57. A quote from a bystander, "The Hawks never trailed. Not a seat in the house was open, a lot of emotion with a playoff atmosphere."

In New London at "Fort Knox", the visiting Sauk Centre Mainstreeters girls basketball team handed the Wildcats their second loss of the season by a 61-48 final margin. The 'Cats led 32-28 at halftime.

Check this out, from the St.Cloud Times today: Five basketball players from Pierz Healy High School have been suspended from school for three days for an alleged hazing incident.

Superintendent George Weber says the Pierz boys basketball team was on its way home from a game in Maple Lake when one of the players reported that he was inappropriately touched and felt violated. The Brainerd Dispatch reports the student was not touched sexually.

Weber says the five students were suspended Monday through Wednesday and will return to school today. The boys will not be able to play in any basketball games for two weeks.

The superintendent says school officials have been talking with high school students about inappropriate behavior and making sure that the students don’t hold any animosity.

In Osakis tonight, the Jaguars jumped out to early leads of 7-0, 13-1, and 15-3 to take control of the first half. Osakis showed its grit by battling back to a 21-13 deficit, but the Jaguars would not let them get any closer as they pulled away for a 40-27 lead at halftime.

In the second half, both teams traded baskets, beginning with a three pointer by Kirby Montbriand, before the Jaguars went on a 12-0 run to break the game wide open. Osakis never threatened the rest of the way, as the Jaguars' defense held them to 12-of-40 shooting from the field for the game.
